# ID verification

> When the ID check appears, how to take a clear photo of your student ID, and what to do if your camera is blocked.

Some teachers turn on **ID verification** for their test. When it's enabled, you take a quick photo of your student ID so your teacher can confirm who's taking the exam.

<Note>
  ID verification appears **before** you start the test — between agreeing to be monitored and setting up your camera and screen — and only if your teacher turned it on (and the test requires a camera). If you don't see it, that's normal; your test just doesn't use it.
</Note>

## What you'll see

The screen is headed **"ID verification"**:

> *"Hold your student ID up to the camera so your name is clearly visible, then take a photo."*

## Taking the photo

<Steps>
  <Step title="Hold up your ID">
    Hold your **student ID** up to your webcam so your **name is clearly visible** in the frame.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Take the photo">
    Click **"Take ID Photo"**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check it, then continue">
    If it's blurry or hard to read, click **"Retake photo"** and try again. When it looks clear, click **"Continue"**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  For a clean photo: make sure your name is readable, face a light source (not a bright window behind you), and avoid glare on the card.
</Tip>

## If your camera is blocked

If your camera is blocked or missing, you'll see recovery help — **"Camera access was blocked"** and **"How to allow camera access:"** — with steps to fix it. Depending on your teacher's settings, you may also be able to **"Continue without camera"**.

For full instructions on unblocking your camera, see [Camera & screen setup](/students/browser-permissions).
